simplehuman Push Pump for Soap or Lotion, Chrome, 10 Ounces

simplehuman Push Pump for Soap or Lotion, Chrome, 10 OuncesI have purchased 10 of these over the past year and a half. I do have to note that I use them in a commercial setting for two public restrooms inside a nice establishment. The setup in these restrooms do not allow for a wall or sink dispenser, so I do have to rely on individual pumps. In the past, I often just bought those expensive dispensers such as the ones made of stone, marble, etc. However, I always had two issues with expensive pump dispensers. The first was that people often like to take them with them (yes, it happens more than you'd think). The second was that the spout would often come loose or break off as they could rarely stand up to the heavy use. Therefore, I was really pleased to find this Simple Human product as it is aesthetically pleasing, yet also serves the function that is was made for -all for a price much lower than the super fancy ones I had been buying.

As for the details, the dispenser is extremely easy to use and does look nice. The sliding plastic door covering the soap chamber can be tricky to open at first, but really nothing to complain about. It's also a lot easier to refill than the normal method of pouring soap down a tiny hole while trying to not go overboard!! Of course, the soap chamber is see-through so you can refill it before it empties, thus avoiding any of your guests having to give you the bad news that the soap is out in the bathroom. Additionally, they must still look expensive as I have had two stolen by dinner patrons!

As for durability, I have experienced issues with three of the ten dispensers that I have bought. After about a year, two of them stopped working as the soap started to come out at the base of the lever rather than the end. To be fair, they did probably experience about 100,000 pushes at that point. The third one that had an issue had the same problem, but after only six weeks. Simple Human does provide a five year warranty, but I cannot take advantage of it since commercial use voids it. Additionally, as these are in a public area, there is always the chance that people knock them on the floor or have other accidents that could have affected the functionality.

Overall, I do think this is a good product and worth the $20 risk for home use. I doubt many people would have an issue with home use and, even if you do, I'm sure Simple Human would replace it. Just buy it on Amazon -that way, if you do have an issue, you can just print out an invoice in your purchase history rather than have to hunt for a receipt around the house.

Loved this soap dispenser for its good looks and functionality. Unfortunately it seems to be lacking in durability. This was my second replacement for this soap pump. I purchased this unit in April 2010 and stopped working March 2011 under normal use. I would not recommend this product based on the fact that both units I purchased failed with in about a years time. The pump assembly on both pulled away from the silver lever and the pump became inoperable. Great style and design marred by poor quality of construction.

I've owned this pump for less than one year and it stopped working properly. It stopped pumping through the spout and the soap started to come out the sides. I had to unscrew the bottom and open it up then put it back together to get it to work again. The pump also takes too long to return to the "up" position to pump again.

It works well enough, with a design and weight that makes it convenient for one-handed use. It would occasionally dribble a little down the front, which also makes for a messy counter. Then after about a year it just stopped working (some internal valve/seal must have broken). No real way to take it apart to try to fix it so now there is a yet another useless hunk of metal taking up space in the local landfill.

I bougth one 6 months ago and it stopped working recently. It is a nice looking product but this is the third SimpleHuman soap dispenser that goes down the drain ( pun intended ) along with my money, just within a few months of buying them. I will not buy from this company again unless they show that they have improved the quality of their products.
