I used the "Clamp" option since i had no stud to screw the dish to. The clamp bracket and screws didn't not open wide enough to accommodate the drywall plus the tile and mud bed. I ended up having to bend the bracket out a little in order to and grab the wall. Once in, it seems pretty sturdy but i was worried i was going to bend the edges of the soap dish trying to wedge it in.

Well pleased with this product. Easy to install, with two installation options (a) direct to stud or (b)using dry wall template. All fixings included and totally hassel free. Chrome plated unit looks great and the top bar is strong and adds security in the shower for older folk, if required. Recommended. This is an exact fit for one that was removed by the previous homeowner. The local home store did not carry any recessed soap dishes a relic of the past, I guess.I am not going to use the provided mounting bracket, just going to silicone it in. I'll use nuts behind the soap dish to hold the two screws used with the mounting bracket.
One star dinged from the rating because the gauge of the metal was lighter than I expected. Probably my problem and not the products'.

This Franklin Brass soap dish fit perfectly to replace one like it in a old tile tub surround. If yours looks like this one, and the measurements make sense, then you will probably be as happy with the purchase as I was. Be sure to caulk it in as-necessary behind the flange so that shower water doesn't cause issues. The weakness with these is the same weakness as the originals from 40-50 years ago: the plastic tray. I bought two of these units so I would have a spare tray. I have not found a source for the proper tray (perhaps you can). Amazon lists a Franklin Brass replacement tray (EB1600) but I don't know if it will fit this soap dish.
