Laguna Towel Ring Finish: Satin Nickel

Bought two for the kitchen to match other Baldwin fixtures in the house. Good solid quality. Quick and easy install (more below). Very solid mounting base construction, but a little disappointed that the chrome ring was not solid metal (thus 4 stars), but plated pipe. Overall, good "heft" to the product, in contrast to some that are so thin they will bend/dent if an insect lands on them.

Installation: Unpack. Instructions are included but I didn't read them so have no opinion on their ease of use. Lifetime warranty included in the packaging. Loosen the hex screw holding towel ring to mounting base, using furnished allen wrench. (Be careful. There is an extra hex screw in the parts bag and it is very small and easy to lose.) Pre-position mounting base. Mark pilot screw holes on wall. Drill pilot screw holes. Included drywall anchors for drywall installation (but anchoring to studs is better). I installed on maple cabinets, so used my own, slightly shorter wood screws to mount the mounting bracket. If you want a "professional" installation, be sure that the "notch" in the mounting bracket faces down, and be sure the mounting bracket is installed vertically plumb, otherwise after installation the hex screw may be visible. Also, if the mounting base is not securely affixed to the wall or cabinet, you will have a flimsy feeling towel ring and likely not be happy with the product, so take the time to do a solid, professional installation of the wall mounting bracket. Unpacking, gathering tools (drill, bits, screw driver, tape measure, pencil), then installing two, clean-up and putting tools away, took 20 minutes. Your mileage may vary.

I purchased this towel ring because I had always equated the Baldwin name with outstanding quality solid, heavy-guage brass and finished to last. In fact, I had purchased several of the exact same towel rings seven years ago to install in my previous home's bathrooms and was very happy with them. I was surprised, then, when I removed this newest purchase from the box and detected right away that it is a lighter weight than my old ones. A money saving move by parent company StanleyBlack&Decker perhaps? It remains to be seen how the finish will hold up, but the Baldwin name still comes with a lifetime finish guarantee.
