As to the direction the paper holder arm faces, to change the direction of the arm opening, there's a little hexhead set screw under the ball end the paper holder slips through. Use a small hex bit to unscrew the set screw, remove and reverse the arm and then tighten the set screw back up again.
I prefer the paper roll in my hand and this paper holder makes for both a convenient and versatile experience. There's not really much I can write about this holder, but I will try. It looks EXACTLY like the picture and feels sturdy. I can already tell that it's much sturdier than my last holder, simply due to better design (my last holder was a single rod that would "droop" a lot).
The package comes with everything you need to install (minus tools), including dry wall anchors.
It requires a SMALL flat head screwdriver for installation (not included) so this may frustrate you if you don't immediately have a set of tiny drivers on hand.
Oh, and it's Moen, so it has a Limited Lifetime Warranty. Can't imagine I'll need it, since I can't see this thing breaking unless you abuse it.
Small update: The tiny screw came loose after a few weeks. I screwed it back in tightly and all has been well for months now. Moral of the story: make sure you screw that tiny screw in tight!

Since my husband was busy I installed this myself and did not have any difficulty (and I have very little experience). The best things about this product are that it is beautiful and it is easy to for my 4 yr old and my husband to place a roll of toilet paper on it. (The only negative thing about it that is also easy for my 17 month-old to remove the roll of toilet paper and trail it around the house.)I love it and would certainly recommend it.Read Best Reviews of Moen DN8408 Single Post Toilet Paper Holder from the Preston Collection, Here
I found this easy to install. I followed the advice I found at the Natural Handyman to use on drywall screw to set the location exactly, but one toggle bolt for strength (have had toilet paper holders rip out of the drywall before). Since I didn't have a stud at the location I wanted to install, this seemed best. I find this much easier and more pleasant to use than a spring-loaded t.p. holder, and I also think it looks more elegant. The brass continues to look good after several months, no sign of tarnish. The only thing is, you can really only point it in the direction shown in the picture. If you point it the other way, there's a screw at the bottom of the round base that will then be pointing upwards, so it looks funny.

LOVE this product. Now the kids are replacing empty toilet rolls. Wonderful design, heavy duty, solid construction. Be aware, you'll need a tiny screwdriver much like the ones used in repairing eyeglasses. I had to search and search for one of these. It would be nice if they included these in the box much like they do allen wrenches in other items.
