Toms Of Maine Mouthwash,Peppermint,Baking Soda 16 oz ( Multi-Pack)

Toms of Maine Peppermint Baking Soda Cleansing Mouthwash, 16 Ounce -- 2 per case.I have been looking for an all-natural mouthwash for a while. As I'm fairly meticulous with my oral hygiene, I was hoping to find a mouthwash that didn't contain alcohol or artificial chemicals and sweeteners, but maintained effectiveness. Enter Tom's Natural Baking Soda Mouthwash (I liked Peppermint). I bought six bottles as a trial and I sat down tonight to reorder. I had finally found something that tasted good, worked (and burned a little, which is my unscientific way of knowing somethings happening), and wasn't full of long-term poison. In fact, I was so happy with the product that I was hoping to find one of Amazon's Subscribe and Save deals.

To my dismay, I discovered that just when I've found an excellent product, the formula has been cheapened. No longer do we find witch hazel and organic Aloe. Instead we have a "new and improved" formula (read: cheaper) that substitutes something called Propanediol for the ingredients that had finally sold me on Tom's. Propanediol. according to the Tom's of Maine website, "helps form the base for [their] deodorants. Sodium stearate is the ingredient that causes these products to "gel" or take on a form that is more viscous or solid." Great. Awesome. Now I'm gargling with deodorant.

Until today, I hadn't even realized that Colgate had bought Tom's of Maine. Now I'm going to have to reevaluate my consistent purchase of their other products, especially their toothpaste. Tom's has lost my trust, and Colgate-Palmolive is about to find itself the object of my own private boycott. They may not care, but if they pay any attention to the reviews on the Tom's website, they'll find I'm in no way their only angry customer.

I will certainly never buy this mouthwash again... that is, unless, this has all been a terrible misunderstanding. As a loyal Tom's customer, I'd be willing to grant the benefit of the doubt if there was ever hope of purchasing the old formula again. I'd even pay a little extra for it.

I thought I was buying some of the old formula with witch hazel and aloe and TRULY natural ingredients; but alas it appears that the new, Colgate formula is all that is available.

Please e-mail and write to Tom's to try and convince them to go back to the old formula!

Why in the name of all that is holy would Tom's change such a great mouthwash they had before? This stuff tastes like putrid moldy mint ice cream or something. I was wondering why the Target near my house stopped carrying the old style Tom's mouthwash, and I guess from these other reviews that it's because they were bought by Colgate and the formula was changed. I bought a 3 pack of the old mouthwash through Amazon, and came back for more only to find them gone. How disappointing!

On the bright side, if you ever need to induce vomiting, rinse your mouth out with this new formula, then go drink a little bit of Orange Juice. The combination flavor is between rotten egg and skunk.

Awesome!

As a former user of this product, I too am discontinuing use and seeking other alternatives. I have also noticed that the product is no longer available in my local superstore.

Update: Using distilled water, essence of mint, tea tree oil, and dissolved xylitol crystals, it is very easy to do-it-yourself and much more economical. I will never buy this again.
