Twisting the rod makes it unscrew and get longer. One of the hard-rubber end-caps is intentionally loose, so when it finally touches the wall, the cap lets the rod continue to turn as it tightens. As it reaches the right length, a spring inside compresses to provide tension. The end-caps grip the wall tightly. Bang! Installed it in one try, about 30 seconds.Looks good; nice smooth finish lets the curtain hooks slide noiselessly.
